About Craniosacral Therapy
Craniosacral Therapy is a gentle, hands-on form of bodywork that works with the structures, tissues and subtle rhythms of the body.
At its foundation is a detailed understanding of anatomy and the relationships between the cranium, spine, sacrum, membranes, connective tissues and nervous system. Using a light and responsive touch, practitioners learn to listen through their hands, notice patterns of tension and movement, and work with what the body presents.
Anatomically informed. Subtle by nature. Led by the body.
There are many ways to approach Craniosacral Therapy. At Healing Hands, we teach an integrated approach that draws from both biomechanical and biodynamic traditions.
Biomechanical work gives us anatomical landmarks, assessment skills and practical techniques. Biodynamic work asks us to slow down, listen and recognize the body's own rhythms and capacity for change.
Rather than imposing an outcome, we learn to meet the system where it is.
This means a session may involve working with particular structures or areas of restriction, while at other times the work becomes quieter and more receptive. Over time, practitioners develop the palpation skills to recognize subtle changes beneath their hands without needing to interpret or assign meaning to everything they feel.
This is more than technique, it is soul work.
The body does not exist separately from the person who lives within it.
Our physical experiences are influenced by our histories, environments, relationships, stress, injury and the many ways we have learned to adapt throughout our lives.
For this reason, we approach Craniosacral Therapy as whole-person work while remaining grounded in the scope of bodywork.
We don't need to diagnose every pattern, uncover every story or decide what an experience means for someone else.
We can listen. We can become more precise with our hands. We can offer support without forcing change. And we can learn to trust that meaningful work does not always need to be dramatic.
The hands follow the system, not the narrative.
This is the foundation of the way we practise and teach Craniosacral Therapy at Healing Hands: anatomy and subtle perception, skill and curiosity, technique and listening.
It is a practice that continues to deepen with experience, asking us not only to become more capable with our hands but more thoughtful about how we meet the person on the table.
Why do people seek Craniosacral Therapy?
People come to Craniosacral Therapy for many different reasons. Some are looking for support with physical tension, discomfort or recovery from injury. Others are navigating periods of stress, change or transition or simply find the quiet, hands-on nature of the work deeply supportive.
In practice, we may work with people experiencing headaches and migraines, jaw tension, persistent pain, stress and fatigue, changes in sleep or digestion, pregnancy and postpartum recovery, or the effects of injury, surgery and concussion. We may also work alongside people navigating complex health conditions or histories of trauma as one part of a broader circle of care.
Craniosacral Therapy is not a replacement for appropriate medical or mental health care, nor do we teach practitioners to diagnose or treat conditions outside their scope.
What we can offer is thoughtful, individualized bodywork that responds to the person in front of us.
